Prep Your Artwork: The File Checklist
Your print is only as good as your file. Run through this checklist before you upload.
The checklist
- PNG file. PNG keeps the background transparent. (PDF and high-res files also work for ready-made sheets.)
- Transparent background. Anything that isn't transparent gets printed, including white boxes.
- 300 DPI at print size. A 12 in wide design should be about 3600 pixels wide. Blowing up a small image makes it blurry.
- Real size. Set the design to the size you want it on the shirt. Full front adult is often 10 to 12 in wide; left chest is about 3.5 to 4 in.
- No tiny details. Lines thinner than about 1 pt and text smaller than about 6 pt can break or peel.
- Check spelling. We print exactly what you send.
Common problems
- Screenshot or image pulled from social media → too low resolution.
- JPG → has a background box. Remove it and save as PNG.
- Faded, semi-transparent edges or glows → can print patchy. See the next step: halftones.
